We have been covered up with request this last week. Two church groups want a self defense course as well. You really need a class room discussion as to who would actually use a weapon and who would just be disarmed and/or have her own weapon used against her. A very high percentage would find that they are not better off packing a pistol. You have to have a mentality that you WILL use it, not try to use it to intimidate some thug.

Had a couple ladies doing some shooting Saturday. Started them off with a .22 automatic. Gradually moved up to a .38 spec. Don't want either of them shooting at me. The competition got fierce and dang good. Both getting CCW's this week.

How are you supposed to learn if you don't use it?

Mac, the ladies in the area are very fortunate to have you around to teach them. And yes, I know firsthand how competitive we can be. Many of the top shooters in the world are women!

Taking off work to get the oil change in the KIA next week and going to renew my license then.
If I feel threatened in anyway I would and will not hesitate to defend myself, my child or my family.
Never bat an eye. I can be that cold.

I think you should take a class and do some actual shooting before you buy something. Shoot several different calibers and types. I hear people always telling others the small calibers are useless and to go bigger, if you can't hit your target your wasting your time. A .22 will get anyone off you a .380 will fit the bill for most ladies. Has good stopping ability, is loud which in itself will achieve as much as hitting the assailant. Like I said this is not something everyone should do. But if you decide you want a gun, learn to shoot, learn everything about the gun. Then go get the CCW. A lot of folks get fired up, go buy a gun and never shoot it or train and will eventually just put it in the closet and forget about it.................... till the kids find it.

I agree. We have a gun and I could not hit the broad side of the barn with it. Thank goodness for my killer protective dog!

Okay, if I go to "try out" a gun or guns, then how do you "try" them?? Are there samples of guns to try at shooting ranges or what? I'm sorry to sound so "dumb" with this subject, but I really am! I hate guns, hate them in my home, but we have a huge one that has a lock on the box. (do I know where the key is???) But, that's a rifle of some sorts & I wouldn't be able to do anything with that in a hurry anyway.

Maddy a gun is a tool. Its not to scared of anymore than a hammer or a hack saw. If you really want to try some, we are setting up some classes for women to become familiar with firearms. Just contact us at the office and let them know you want to sign up for a class. I'll bring several types to your class and when you go to the range you can try an automatic and revolver and the smaller to mid range calibers. I've even got a cannon or two if you want to really compare them.

Once again, Mac, the ladies up there are lucky to have you around. What you said about the firearm being a tool is exactly the same thing I have told other woman when they were looking at firearms but admitted being "scared" of them. It's wonderful that the ladies will be able to try different calibers and actions. I own just about every caliber handgun from a .22 to a .44MAG. I have quite large hands for a female, so the "cannons" give me no problem. My fav is my Colt MK IV Series 80 Gold Cup .45 ACP.
Maddy, take the classes, take your time, and find something you feel comfortable with.
