We got her permit yesterday. It was $34.25. She was the 58th woman to get a permit this week. Lol, this might get dangerous.

When I went last Thursday they told me I was #56 since the first of the year. The $34.25 includes the fingerprint fee and all the paperwork and the permit is good for 5 years.
Pistol Packing mommas.
As for locked doors, here's I feel about that. If you are not home and they want in, they will get in. I live in a trailer and if the right sized person put their weight against my door the whole frame would come out. We lock the door occasionally but we figure the less damage they cause getting in, the better.
At nights I lock the doors, just for a sense of security, cause if they want in they will get in.
People don't want the care of a dog, but a good dog will bark if someone comes into the yard, to alert you and even protect you. People, even bad guys, will hesitate to come into a yard with a dog, especially a big dog and a small dog. Those small dog's are scarier because they sneak around you to bite you. Plus our small dogs don't go around anyone but family, so no stranger comes into my yard. If they don't know you, beware.
I on the other hand would not think twice about shooting someone to protect my family or myself.
I also will not give in to the fear and terror of an intruder. I refuse to let someone intimidate me in my home or my family, to keep me in hiding.
People ask me could you shoot someone and the answer is YES! If I am in fear of my life I can do it. That's what you have to remember if you have a gun, can you use it.
You can't shoot someone for stealing your TV, cussing you, saying mean things about you and women can get away with a self-defense shooting with less hassle than a man.
I have a very expensive and honed hunting knife in arm's reach in my car and will carry a gun soon.
I refuse to live in fear.
However, I am not stupid.

WHY DOES THE STATE HAVE TO GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO CARRY A GUN?

Probably so that they can monitor the good guys from the bad guys.
That would be an excellent question to research, sometimer, I think you have come up with a good one here.

Did you get your prints done yet? We went right on up and Woody printed her right then..... Actually they have to get a permit, cause they carry concealed.

I agree with the big dog idea. I had two doberman's and only two people every came in my yard. The black dog "got " both of them. Lucy was not very friendly and people were afraid of her. I would love to have a bigger dog, but I am teaching Holly to quit licking all the strangers that come into the house!!

Bee, do you have to show proof of taking a safety course or anything like that?

Nope no safety course required with a handgun. Althought if you aren't comfortable with it, it would be recommended.
If you are a certain age you have to take a Hunters safety course before hunting.
They don't do renewals, you have to start all over again.
