He's getting us in more debt that's for sure! The thing about that 1% is that more than likely they are wealthy retirees, just the kind of people that Lamer wants to kiss up to. And when election time rolls around he will toot his own horn about the complex that "he" built. I really hope that people have seen the REAL Lamar Paris and will help kick his tail out of office next election. If the poll on the main page of this website is any indication then 86% of people disapprove of the way he does his job.

Shortcircuit. A Brief History of Georgia Counties by Ed Jackson Senior Public Service Associate Carl Vinson Institute of Government University of Georgia "In 1974, voters approved a constitutional amendment to change the name of the office of ordinary to probate judge. A 1976 compilation by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia showed that only two counties – Towns and Union – were still governed by the probate judge, while 26 counties were governed by a sole commissioner (in some instances aided by a board of advisors). Separate local acts passed by the 1984 General Assembly for Towns and Union counties replaced the probate judge as governing authority with a sole commissioner effective January 1, 1985. Today, no Georgia counties are governed by the probate judge, while 9 counties – Bartow, Bleckley, Chattooga, Murray, Pickens, Pulaski, Towns, Union, and Walker – are still governed by a single, full-time commissioner. Interestingly, seven of the nine counties are in North Georgia." Click on www.cviog.uga.edu/Projects/gainfo/countyhistory.htm

Hey H. Bee. May the energy bee with thee. For supper last night, I fixed an egg, bacon, and honey-cinnamon toast. I guess I need to lay off the honey. My wife informs me that it was after 2:00 AM when I went to bed this morning. I was reading the Internet and "googling" on the history of county government in GA.
Union County Recreation
I was talking to a man from Florida yesterday who was visiting Union County and he was thinking about moving here. The main attraction for him was golf. Chasing a little white ball was never my idea of fun, but for the 1 % of Union County who chase balls all over a cow pasture, I’m glad they have Butternut Creek Golf Course.
I have a rich uncle who is found of saying, “To make money, you have to spend money.” I think it is also true of county government. Money spent on recreation is an investment that is fair to young and old.
For the other 99 % who don’t like golf, we have Meeks Park and the Dog Park. When the Nottely River is up during the summer, one of my favorite things to do is going to the park and sitting on a bench at the Gazebo. Also, I enjoy walking in the park and a little fishing therapy now and then. The ball fields and swimming pool rival any in the Atlanta area.
It seems to me that anything that attracts tourist to Union County is a good thing for local business. Let them improve Union County Recreation. I think recreation is a good investment in Union County and effective use of tax money. But what does a 9-foot-tall Bigfoot know?
On another note, I’m not sure how having a 3 of 5 member board of commissioners would help solve anything, except give those who are critical of county government three to five more commissioners to complain about.
I need to get back to work. It is a tough job being a manape.

BACON EGG AND HONEY CINNAMON TOAST! WOW That sounds really good and like an Elvis meal, but I guess not, cause it wasn't deep fried.
Golf, I refer to it as Cow Pasture Pool.

Bee.
I guess we all have our Elvis moments. I try to eat oat meal through the week.
I think they refer to golf as cow pasture pool in Alabama. I used to work in Alabama. I know the guy's favorite thing to do was "cow tippin and ground hog shooten." I never ate one, but ground hogs must be pretty tasty. It seems to be a waste of good bullets, just to be shootin God's creatures just because you can. I think the cows are sacred in Alabama. They ran around just like they do in India. I never saw anyone shootin at one, either.
Speaking of sacred cows, can someone in this forum tell me why we need more commissioners in Union County? From my research so far, it seems that they only meet a couple of times a month. How can they get much done meeting two times a month? Why stop at three or five commissioners? Maybe taters are cheaper by the dozen.
Multiple-Commissioners seems like running county government by committee to me. What do they do the rest of the month (when they are not meeting) and who runs-the-day-to-day county government while all the commissioners are out on the golf course?

I thought this was a great idea as well. To have Multiple-Commissioners as well. Then I talked with my grandmother. They have the Multi Commissioner offices there.. and well.. she said that they are always disagreeing and getting anything done takes rather a long period of disagreements for resolution to become of most situations. This was not what I wanted to hear.lol! I wanted to hear that it worked out fabulous.. but the minute something goes wrong with choices that have finally came decided, its the finger pointing attitude going on.. sigh. Manape, the county has grown considerably. The effects of this has shown be it roads, housing, numbers, numbers and more numbers. I can see why folks feel we need this. Specially with people who want to find fault in the one we have as a commissioner, in which I do not agree with and I think it is a noble man to take such office and have to try to please everyone and still do the job to the book.. with so many going at him daily and demanding what THEY feel is right.. well.. yeah.. Hats off to him for sure. A job that I think any one man would have a hard time filling because the numbers of demands outside of the job alone. So to be fair, I have wanted a Multi-Commissioner office as well. And to be fair, I would rather have half local and half non local.. however, regardless WHO and who ALL become part of this office, someone will be there to point a finger when the demands are not reached in the effective way another person sees as being right. MY OPINION ONLY.. and now that my grandmother has told me how effective theirs is, being Multi.. I am with you.. asking everyone else.. Why and what reasons as well..

Having three commissioners is not a good idea because two will side with each other against the other one and nothing gets done. By having a five member board you would have one representing each district of the county. Only the residents in that district could vote for their commissioner, not the entire county. Remember what happened to Towns County, Jack Dayton did not think he would die in mid-term but it happens. Then what. This would be the same case here. Hire a county administrator. (Someone who is trained in governmental law and procedures) The board of commissioners could elect their own chairman and rotate each year to elect a chairman. Each would be paid a small fee for attending meetings, travel and training. The administrator would carry out the wishes of the part-time commissioners. It works because I have lived in counties with both forms of government. This is the only way you will get equal representation in the county because as it is now we are under a dictatorship.
