This last election ;Both computers ;Towns and Union county crashed at end or near the end of the counting. We were told that the computers have a back up and if you read NGN the totals differed from the number of people voting. This is happening all over u.s.a.Justin and I were in towns and Eddie was in Union.Long story but will run more on this site later.Diebolt co. originated in South America.

I don't see how a man that can make so many mistakes as commissioner can still be in office? Why doesn't someone have him impeached or removed from office if he is so bad? Isn't this his 2nd term in office? If so, somebody believes in him. Myself, I vote principals and conscience, when the last vote came around I skipped that on the ballot. That's probably what crashed the machine

Bee; You would not believe the people who keep certain ones in place. The clean up has to start with the jury commission on local level.Favors have been passed back and forth all the way to the White House. This may change soon. This country is in the biggest mess ever.Justice seldom gets served. Now it is who owes who a favor and how much money can be stolen.

Response to Homepage: “Commissioner Paris begins war with Union Co. Republican Party - Rejects GOP’s appointment to election board, calling candidate “unbelievable and a disgrace” - Denies Party access to courthouse for convention next month.
Though not my words, (begins war) that is not an unreasonable assessment of this, Lamars’ latest attack, and it will not proceed without rebuttal. It is no secret that Lamar does not now particularly like me personally. But, he liked me okay back in 2000, when he was running for office and I supported him financially and otherwise. At that time I had addressed several issues of concern regarding local government and he agreed with me and assured me that they would be corrected if he should prevail in winning the election of County Commissioner. Well, he lied to me then and after nine months into his first term I could no longer give him the benefit of doubt and had to accept the fact that I and others had been duped. He has continued to lie, deceive, distort, and manipulate anything and anyone to gain more control for himself in his never ending goal as a dictator. My perception of a County Commissioner is to represent and promote the best interests of the people, not rule over them for his best interest as he seems to believe.
Since Lamar has opened this “can of worms” about appointments to the Board of Elections, and has referred to The Union County Board Of Elections Act, H.B.798-year 2001, something I had no knowledge of, I have since read and re-read this Act. It, to say the least it is poorly written and convoluted. But most importantly it includes yet another example of excessive control by the Local Governing Authority. In short, the BOE is comprised of five (5) members: Two (2) are selected by the local Democratic Party, two (2) by the local Republican Party, and the fifth is selected by the Local Governing Authority (Lamar). This obviously gives an unfair advantage to Lamar and the local Democratic Party by providing them with a majority vote when needed. Question: Why should Lamar or any political party have need for this majority unless it just might come in handy to perhaps influence an election outcome? However, in Fannin County, this fifth position is selected by mutual agreement by the two officers from each party. Also, the State also has an elections act for counties that do not have their own act whereas the two officers from each party create a list of individuals that are mutually agreed upon and then one name is selected from that list by a judge. Both of these examples from Fannin County and State of Ga. instill a sense of impartiality and fairness in order to protect the people from unfair control by either party. Whose name is attached via resolution on the Union County Act? Lamar Paris. This Act became effective in 2001, the very same year that Comm. Paris first took office and it also includes other avenues of excessive control by the Party in office. So here we are with an already one sided BOE Act that gives far too much authority and total control to Lamar and now he is attempting to deny the local Republican Party of its selection to this Board which is already in the minority. Our selection to this Board is none of his ---- business. Why has he opened this can of worms? My opinion or answer to this is that as I stated previously, his dislike of me personally, his dissatisfaction that I am Chairman of the Union County Republican Party, his dislike of James Boyer, perhaps he fears threatened that Mr. Boyer just might find even more laws of which he is in non-compliance, maybe including election irregularities.
It is merely a question of time until there is a Republican as Union County Commissioner. This BOE Act currently in place would of course favor that Commissioner also. It would no more be correct then than now. This Act is engineered solely to provide excessive and unwarranted power and control to the Party in power (Dem. or Rep.) and completely eliminates any degree of fair and honest representation for the people.
It is unfortunate that Comm. Paris has chosen to act once again in such an unprofessional manner, particularly regarding the letter he wrote and I would like to point out just a few things in regard to that same letter.
1-Its’ not up to you , Comm. Paris to have reservations as to our selection to BOE. Its’ none of your business. 2- I have absolutely no dislike for anyone currently on the BOE 3- Mr. Boyer is a responsible member of the community. 4-The only qualifications required are to be an elector in this county 5-You have insulted every single member of the UCRP Executive Committee, and you cannot even name them, much less know them. And rest assured, they will not forget this.
Eddie Woodliff, Chairman, UCRP

What do you do if you don't follow party lines?
I am not trying to be a troublemaker, but you seem like a knowledgeable, level headed person to ask these questions?
I don't vote straight Dems or straight Repub, I have no idea the difference between parties because views tend to cross lines. I don't know if I am liberal or conservative.
I do know the origins of each party, so I am not totally ignorant of each.

No one knows me better than my self so I’ll tell you about me. I’m a mix breed. My mother’s people are Florida pioneers and my father’s people settled in Sparta Ga. (Fairplay) 1805 from Va. I went to school in Miami graduated from Miami Senior High in 1950. A month later I was activated into air force where I became a dropmaster and went to jump school. I was released from active duty (honorable discharge) in 1952 as a buck sergeant. I got married in 1955 and had one boy, Steve, we split in 1958 and I won custody of Steve. I married my present wife Laurie (A Delta stewardess) and in 1960 had another child Jaime, who furnished us with my two Angels that are both attending school here. We raised both boys, and we are still married. I love the Everglades and the outdoors. I was a building contractor. I am at present 320 pages into writing a book about the Glades. I formed a Boy Scout troop, 210 in Miami and was the Scoutmaster for several years. We came here permanently in 1978 and have never regretted it. I came down with serious health problems in late 80’s and have had several heart and artery operations. I have met and established friend ships here that have lasted for years. I am a Baptist, was baptized in 1941 and I attend The Church With Out Walls and Fred Whitley is my Pastor. I find most people very genuine and sincere. However I will never understand why anyone seems to enjoy letting certain families take advantage of them like they do. When I see something wrong I am not afraid to expose it and I guess I will continue as long as I am alive. When I don’t speak up I develop a terrible since of quilt. It may be a stretch but I like to feel like I am following the teachings of the Bible. For sure I haven’t had any financial gains from my efforts. I don’t think anyone after Jesus should have any special privileges when it comes to taxes, laws, and government. I believe that until the people of Union County “wise up” and remove the editor and the bias one sided reporting of the NGN they will continue to be taken advantage of. Till the time of this site we have had no voice. I have been maligned many times and think about it, how could I possibly defend myself? We only hear one side, its called control. I believe sole commissioners deny us our constitutional right to have a legislative voice to our local government and should be done away with. I don’t think that if we had a multi commissioner government that we would have been tricked like we were. It would have been harder for five to lie to us. Sonny

Honeybee, Good question, and I can personally relate to your position as to party lines. I too in the past have crossed these lines at the polls. I believe that first we should all understand that there are good and not so good elected officials in each party. Therein lies the delima in chosing to follow one party exclusively. Fortunately, you don't have to, you can vote for anyone you chose from either party, except in a Primary Election. I can only urge you to educate yourself about your choice of candidates, especially their character and integrity as well as what they stand for and this can be difficult, especially here. For me the choice to adhere to the Republican Party was easy, I only have to consider the likes of Bill& Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, etc. on a National level. On a local level there are a few good Democrats in office, but Lamar Paris as well as the Sole Commissioner form of government again makes my choice easy to chose to be Republican and proud of it. You may not know this but once you get away from local government even the local Democrats vote majority Republican at State and National levels. I suggest that you at least consider that local government here could be may be regarded as the "Good Ole Boy Party" and not strictly associate it with either Party nationally.

True, but the good ole boy party has worked for years and no one has complained until the last great migration from Cuban Florida to Blairsville, Ga.
Are we all so stupid that we don't know what's going on, or we don't care or maybe it's not as bad as it is made out to be.
I liked John Kerry. He got the bum's rush because everyone thought he was for abortion, which was untrue. If they had taken the time to research and read exactly what was said and voted for, by him, I believed he would have been more understood. But the media outlet, churches and opponents focused on the abortion issue and his military career and went no futher.
I don't think pulpits are a good place to politicize. Politics and religion do not mix, make strange bedfellows, whatever you choose to call it.
So instead they voted for George W. Bush and his vice-president. Which is the least of the two greater sins. A vice president with a lesbian daughter who is currently pregnant with a child, she and her life partner, plan to raise.
Politics and religion don't mix.
I am enjoying this discussion by the way. It's nice to be able to have an intelligent discussion between people without interference. And who knows somebody may read our discussion and make a decision based on the ideas that have been presented.
Thank you.

Fairplay, who do you think the 5 people commission should be made up of, not names, just by their politics.
