Man, if your taxes have gone down, more power to you, or to the one you alloud. Myself, I can do the simple math, my taxes went UP!! The only tax break we got was from the Gov., otherwise they went up almost $80. So just how did my taxes go down, when I'm really paying more? I'm not saying the actual check was larger, it's just where the tax cut came from and the increase came from, I wish more people knew how to do simple math.

THE COMMISAR AND HIS SUPPORTERS SAY PER CAPITA TAXES DO NOT REFLECT ACTUAL TAXES AND PARIS GOES ON TO SAY THE NUMBER REFLECTS BOTH LOCAL AND SCHOOLS. HE IS RIGHT, IT DOES REFLECT BOTH TAXING AUTHORITIES. SO LET'S SEE WHICH TAXING AUTHORITY HAS INCREASED TAXES THE MOST IN UNION COUNTY, LOCAL GOVERNMENT OR SCHOOLS. HERE ARE THE NUMBERS FOR YEAR 2000 AND YEAR 2005.
TAXES LEVIED PER PERSON-------COUNTY-------MILL RATE FROM 2000 REPORT $456.50-----------------------UNION---------13.6 TOTAL LOCAL AND SCHOOLS
TAXES LEVIED PER PERSON-------COUNTY--------MILL RATE FROM 2007 REPORT $855--------------------------UNION---------14.229 TOTAL LOCAL AND SCHOOLS
2000 TAXES LEVIED PER PERSON-------COUNTY-------MILL RATE FROM 2000 REPORT $456.50-----------------------UNION---------13.6 TOTAL MILLS $166------------County Government Only-----MILL RATE 4.8 $290.50---------COUNTY SCHOOLS ONLY--------MILL RATE 8.8
FOR YEAR 2000, SCHOOLS MADE UP 63.7% OF TOTAL PROPERTY TAXES AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT MADE UP 36.3% OF TOTAL PROPERTY TAXES.
2005 TAXES LEVIED PER PERSON-------COUNTY--------MILL RATE FROM 2007 REPORT $855--------------------------UNION---------14.229 TOTAL MILLS $400--------------COUNTY GOVERNMENT ONLY----MILL RATE 6.65 $455--------------COUNTY SCHOOLS ONLY-------MILL RATE 7.759
FOR YEAR 2005 SCHOOLS MADE UP 53.3% OF TOTAL PROPERTY TAXES AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT MADE UP 46.7% OF PROPERTY TAXES.
Anyone can see very easily that Local Government under PARIS has had an EXPLOSION in taxes and no NEW services to show for it. Anyone can see that TAXES PER CAPITA ARE A VERY RELIABLE INDICATOR of how much taxes are, and which authority is doing the taxing.

So all the statistics above come down to the following:::
The Local Government taxes per capita increased 141% under paris from 2000 to 2005.
The School Government taxes per capita increased 57% during the same time period from 2000 to 2005.
Now compare all the above counties with Union County.
While the School system did HAVE a huge tax increase of 52% in 2005, the average over the 5 year timeframe was 11.4%, which is acceptable and falls inline with most other government bodies.
The County under Paris during the same 5 year period averaged 28.2%, which IS NOT acceptable and is more than double most other government bodies.
THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF THE VALIDITY OF COMPARING PER CAPITA TAXES BETWEEN DIFFERENT TAXING AUTHORITIES OR DIFFERENT COUNTIES.
So the commisar is feeding everyone horse manure about per capita taxes not being valid.

All the data below are new charts compiled to show county comparisons on LOCAL GOVERNMENT ONLY, NOT SCHOOLS.
There are 3 different charts with 3 different ways to compare the data.
First chart is to show local government only mill rate year to year during Paris' time in office. Second chart is to show differences of taxes per capita levied and percentage increase from 2000 to 2005 for each county listed. Third chart reflects same data as chart 2 in a diferent format.
CHART #1 Comparison of Millage Rates of Area Counties (does not include school milL rate)

CHART #3 TAXES PER PERSON FOR EACH COUNTY FOR EACH YEAR LISTED BELOW
--------Banks---Fannin--Habershm--Lumpkin--Rabun--Towns---White----Union 2000----$164----$153-----$218------$257----$472----$229----$127----$166

Union County under Paris has outstriped most of the other counties by as much as 121%, so for someone to say taxes per person don't count must have their head in the sand.
Union County under Paris has the highest increase per person in tax dollars!!
Union County taxes per person FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT is higher than all the counties listed here except one, it is the 5th highest in all 22 north Georgia counties. Union County under Paris is the 5th highest in percentage increase in taxes per person out of 159 counties.

And in this weeks issue of the outhouse wiper Paris is wanting to add to the per capita calculations dogs, cats, horses, goats, etc. And Apes.
He knows by doing so the per capita will come down and make him look good.

""Furthermore, given the choice between Harold Cook and Lamar Paris, I will vote for the one who has done the most good for Union County.""
So ape will probably vote for Harold like most patriotic Americans; good for you ape, otherwise you will be unpatriotic.

""offer some solutions?""
solutions::
#1-vote the commisar out of office. #2-pay only fair market value when buying land for the County. #3-refuse to spend county money on frivolous items. #4-get rid of county employee cell phones except for department heads. #5-get rid of county employee credit cards. #6-A commissioner who abides by State Laws. #7-get rid of an incompetent commissioner.
#8-make the golf course self paying and then make it profitable and then lease it out with the county getting a fair lease price and the lessee being responsible for the upkeep and improvements necessary.
#9-quit wasteful spending of taxpayers monies. #10-help the present commisar become a productive member of society by returning him to private enterprise.
etc, etc, etc.

Paris thinks he's in compliance with the law 48-8-122 by putting some details of splost spending in his Q&A.
NOT so! There's NO requirement of telling the truth in his Q&A.
There is A REQUIREMENT of telling the truth in a Legal Ad, which 48-8-122 requires.

Yes! Bubba, you are 100% correct. Please get 4 or 5 "good" men and take them with you to the Sheriff and ask him to do his sworn duty and enforce the law.

Yes! Bubba, you are 100% correct. Please get 4 or 5 "good" men and take them with you to the Sheriff and ask him to do his sworn duty and enforce the law. Our Sheriff is having trouble with differentiating between the words sworn and swearing. He's swearing a lot against his opponent and knows he was sworned in as Sheriff but that's as far as it goes.

I was out on the Old Blue Ridge hwy and visited a number of Merchants there. They are very upset with Paris for the Bridge closing. they were told by Paris only 2 days before the closing of the bridge.
They feel they were betrayed by Paris, and quite a number of plain citizens feel the same way.
Way to go commisar!! you're losing votes left and right.
We just can't wait until your next goof, which is sure to come knowing how you do things.
Your opportunity is there Harold, go out and contact those people in that area and tell them how Paris screwed up closing the bridge.

""I do not trust those who try to insult the intelligence of the voters of Union County."" It's a sorry state of affairs when a person doesn't trust himself; I almost feel sorry for you Ape........NAW. I trust myself. I just don't trust the Republican candidates of Union County who use dirty politics. I agree that is a sorry state of affairs (I'm not calling all Republicans Repubs, just the ones who try to bring our county down and act like you spend a lot of time in a pub). The number one reason I don't listen to your babble is this. You are masters at distributing misinformation. You might be a REPUB if...a few examples include: - You call JW Payne's business cards campaign material and call that an ethics violation.
- You use bogus statistics to misrepresent data (Your per capita numbers are used to misrepresent truth)
- and you try to persuade the people by insulting them.
We can't trust you in the small matters and we sure can't trust you to run our government. Why don't you use those big brains to make Union County better by helping solve problems? Then, you would be worthy of our votes. We would have a real choice. Why don't you try to restore dignity back to the republican party (Justin M seems to be trying, but he is one of the few)? The people don't want to listen to a bunch of babbling BS'ing whiners. Why should we hire your leaders for public office? Have you holier than thou pharisees thought about following the teaching of Holy Scripture? "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth." Naw, that would be smart and that is why you are not in control.
