The cost of the supplies to build anything is still high... just the cost of transporting the items to the stores/suppliers has gone up, so in turn they have to charge more. And the builders have to have a profit on what they do, they in turn have to pass on the added cost of business to the people they are working for, too.

It is because of the cost of gasoline and some products are petrolem based. Also, georgia is now requiring everyone to have this expensive workman's comp. and liability insurance. Instead of paying someone $1000 to put shingles on the roof, we hire someone with the insurance and pay them $3500 for two days work.

Any foreclosures in your neighborhood yet? So far, we don't have any, but I hear people on the other forums talking about how bad it is, in their neighborhoods! Houses are falling into disrepair.

None that I know of right now... but the house next door has been on the market for a while. The people that own it only lived here for about 6 months and then moved back to Macon.

Most of the people that I talk to on the saving forum, live in larger cities and they are really feeling this foreclosure thing.

I read that only 9000 builders will get their license this spring. That might mean things will have to pick up for those builders. People are still going to build houses. (I mean, 9000 builders in the state of Georgia, sorry)

Things aren't slowing down for my next door neighbor. They put there house up for sale thinking they'd be able to go the whole spring/summer while they build their new house in Alpharetta. They have a contract on it & it's been on the market less than a month. Jeez.

That is really unusual, maddy... hope they didn't have it priced too low!

There is about a two year inventory of new houses on the market in this area.

It appraised for $550K & I think they sold it for $500K. It sucks now because they've let us use their shed for the past 5 years. We have to get one or get a storage unit off property. I'd love to build a garage here, but I don't think we have the area to do it.

That really sucks. So they are moving back to the rat race but at least they can make a living there. I loved Alpharetta though. We lived in the country and I didn't go into town very much and spent my weekends in Blairsville. It was the best of two worlds. Can't look back though.

Nat, his Dr.s are down there & he's not in the best of health.(84) Their daughter lives down there too. I'll miss them, but from what I hear it's a big wig from UCB moving in now.

Oh, I understand now. Especially at 84 yr you have to be close to your doctor. UCB? Wonder if he will be "replacing" anyone? There are alot of bankers moving around lately.
